My friend has a bone stock 97 Cobra, and all he does is talk it up... I hear that 97's are the slowest year cobra made?... Is there any chance of me beating him?

It'll be close with your bolt on if he's still stock. But otherwise all things being equal a '97 Cobra will still put a couple of lenths on a PI headed GT. If he's got any breathing mods, or gears you might want to practice up on your hole shot and hope he buggers up his launch, cause he's gonna reel you in up top.

Oh....and 93, '94-'95 were the "slowest" years for the Cobra, not '96-'98.

'93 was the slowest year Cobra.

94-95 can still get 13's with a decent driver. 96-97 are a 13 sec car with a good driver.

A stock PI GT and a stock 97-98 cobra is purely a driver's race. The cobra has the edge top end.

Toss mods on them and the Cobra responds better.

Oh and 94-95 cobras are cheap and easily modded as well.

At least it's more erect and not floppy anymore.

I see your gears are on the way, install those asap before you race him. It should be close (If the cobra stays stock). All in all it should come down to the driver. Good Luck.

96-98's were not the slow years.

Honestly, if the guy can drive those 3.73's may not help. 4.10's would be a better gear trust. I put in 3.73's in my old 2V and 3 months later after being beaten by a 4.10 2v, I threw in 4.10's.

Half of the cobra owners out there (like your friend) don't know how to drive them right, so I bet he would get something like 14.7 if he even tried. Knowing how to launch a 96-98 Cobra is the biggest factor in their speed, the second is where to shift.

I've seen cobra owners shift at 5500rpm, and they wonder why they are so slow....

With your mods and gears I think you'll be fine in a stoplight or quarter mile race if you can drive. Really the big downside to a stock Cobra is those 3.27. A roll race would be a different story as you get up top. JMO
