98 GT Overheating After Long Idle

Yes, I did a search, but I hate cutting into threads and no one seeing my posts.

If I idle for a long time after getting the thermostat gauge to normal, the car's temp begins to rise. I turned my A/C on, and the fan did not kick on. We left the car running until it got to the "L" in "NORMAL" and still no fan. Could it be a bad fan switch? Could I need a new fan? New fan wires?

Oh, and when it overheats, the radiator cap releases the pressure and the coolant just sprays out from under the cap. I then let it cool and put water in and go about my business.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

3 things too check..

1. fuses

2. fan motor

3. ccrm

there is a 60 amp fuse in the battery junction box.. check this first.. if that fuse is fan you need too test the cooling fan itself.. the ccrm is the component that sends power too the fan.. i have seen many ccrm's in various ford models go bad.. if the cooling fan works with 12 volts directly too it.. then i would take a good look at your ccrm

check fuses, test for codes at autozone this should tell you the problem,test fan, test engine(CTS) coolant temperature sensor a chilton repair manual will instruct you how to test(CTS) i think this is your problem and it should show up in a check engine code, but if not then test ccrmwhich should also show in code.

Could my car be throwing codes without popping on the "service engine" light? I thought if it threw any codes at all, that light would come on. The light hasn't come on yet.

Just check the fuse. It won't throw the MIL.

Fuse is good, checked it earlier. I should check the fan itself next?

yes and i believe your fan motor will be tested during check.

Yes check the fan next. Unplug the connector and jumper the proper wires. If the fan doesn't spin up (and you're sure you connected the wires properly,) then it needs to be replaced.

If it spins up, you may want to look at checking the wire harness as far as you can trace it, think about what you'd been doing recently that may have involved knocking a wire loose, cutting in to a wire, etc.
