is it possible to make a 5.0 sound like the 99 and up gt with the x pipe or is it the two cams that make all the difference, they sound so wicked i think im going to let the 5.o go,do they still have the 8.8 diff?anyone know where i can get specs?

I would venture to say that the difference in sound has more to do w/ engine size (5.0 vs 4.6) rather than the cams.

To each his own, but the 5.0 can me made to sound very wicked :hail2:

Are you really concerned about differential size? If so, post in the 99+ forums and ask them...that's your best bet for specs I'd say.

Get an off road x-pipe or H-pipe and some magnaflows, my car sounds just like my dads 03 mach 1 except alittle higher pitched and raspyer because his car has a MRT 2.5" catted H and my 2.5" H has no cats, but we both have the same mufflers.

it is all about the engine itself. things like configuration (OHC), firing order, etc all contribute to the sound - it would be easiest to swap that motor in if one wants that cadence.

The exhaust from all 86-04 Mustangs is pretty similar. Just your basic H-pipe and cat-back setup.

The difference is the engine.

I do agree, the 99+ does have a more intense sound to it's exhaust. I have the same exhaust on both my cars and my '03's just sounds more "exotic"

Yep :nice: it's all the engine...

A Prochamber can get your car to sound more like a 96+ Gt...I've heard them on a 5.0L with longtubes/chamber/mac catback and it sounded nice...but it still doesn't have the sound of the 4.6L...

Even with my "cam lope" headers/offroad H/2 chamber flows...it still doesn't compare to my 2000 GT (I had) with Mac Prochamber and Mac Catback :hail2: ...still the best sounding "combo" on a 4.6L mustang in my opinion...

Next week (after Santa brings it to him)...my friend is putting on a Prochamber on his 00 GT...I can't wait to help him out with it...just resuse the stock passenger side manifold/pipe gasket...bought the new driver side manifold studs for the seal/and some liquid wrench and hand tools and he is on his way to a nice sounding 4.6L

i had spintech with an o/r xpipe on my 01gt, let me tell you, that car sounded crazy. People would always give me a drive by thumbs ups, even had a cop do that. When I had my 1st 5.0 i wanted the 4.6 sound, then when I had the 4.6, i wanted the 5.0 sound again. Guess it's what one can't have

Lots of things impact sound quality - length of system, diameter, location - number-and type of cats, h vs. x vs. no crossover, engine type and size, state of tune, compression ratio, type of head (4 valve vs. 2 valve makes a difference), muffler type, location and configuration -- all these things make a difference. Very difficult to emulate a particular sound.

You can come close though - do a search - the mod motor can be made to fit in the Fox body. That'll give you that 4.6L sound. :)
