I have a `99 GT convertible that I bought just recently with 63k on the odo. The whole car is in very nice condition except for one tiny area of the convertible top where it's being strangely worn.

What happens is that whenever someone shuts the door on the passenger side, the upper rear corner of the passenger door glass rubs the slightly overhanging convertible top. (only when the top is UP, obviously)

It is now beginning to fray the convertible top in the 1" square area of where it rubs everytime the passenger door is shut. Is there any kind of adjustment that can be performed to the top (professionally or even by ME) to stop this from going on?

Thanks!
Dale

I had the same problem...what happens is the window gets off alignment due to wear and tear/what delear told me/, and it has to be reset into alignment for it to cloe properly. Gotta take it to a Convertable top shop or to the dealer if you know someone at a dealership...tell'em to hook you up.

Is it the original top? I replaced mine myself last year and had a similar problem, only the passenger side wouldn't shut properly without cracking the window. I lived w/ it for about a year and finally took it to a shop cause I thought it was a bad top. Another $500 later (after the first $400 investment + 15 hours of my time...) I got a new top that did the same thing. Turns out there are 2 sizes of side cables that fit 96-98's (cant speak for the rest) The ones I bought were too short, stretching the top too far. The shop just re-located the rear cable attachment, could have saved me a lot of money knowing that.
If not, could be the window alignment???

The dealer fixed my window alignment several times. When it didn't rub the top it leaked in the rain. I couldn't win. I was told that there is a problem with the door alignment, not the window, and the only way to fix it is to break the welds on the door hinges and reweld. I was told this by a buddy of mine who works at the local Ford Dealer.

If you are able to fix it some other way, please let me know and I will suggest that to them. Also, is there any way to fix that worn spot without replacing the whole top???
