I noticed this trend and was wondering if you guys might know what's going on. In 99 when the new style mustang came out, magazine times for the 5 speed GT were 0-60 in 5.5 and 1/4 mile in 14.0 at 99. However, if you look in the later magazine issues where they test the later ones, the times are like 0-60 in 6.0, even saw one was 6.2, and the 1/4 mile is also slower and down in speed by quite a bit.

So I'm just wondering what's going on that would cause the discrepancy in time over the years. Are the test drivers just not driving it as hard? Or did the change to the 3650 tranny change the ratios enough to slow the car down quite a bit?

5.5 to 6.0..sure it wasn't an auto that put down the 6.0?

Auto's have been recorded to do a 6.0-6.1. Not to say that's the best they can muster but, it was an accepted average. 5.5 sounds like a 5-speed launched decently well.

Take into comparison that one of the selling points of the 05 Auto GT's is that they are ~1 second quicker in the 0-60. Since they've managed a 5.1 in it so far.

Call me crazy but I think they were or I just got a ringer. My 99 GT 5-speed with only a stock replacment K&N airfilter and weld-in flowmasters put down 238 rwhp and 279 rwtq sae. My 03 GT put down 242 rwhp and 280 rwtq sae with K&N cold air kit magnaflow x-pipe and a magnaflow cat-back. This was also done on the same dyno albeit 4 years later.

the compression is higher in the 99-00 gt's but every gt from 99-04 is rated at the same hp and tq. I would think the differance in times is because of track conditions/weather/driver/whether or not car engine is cold or hot.

1. Magazine drivers suck, magazine racing sucks more

2. Different people drive the cars

3. You don't know how they drove the car (powershifting, wheelspin)

4. Track prep

5. Weather conditions

That's why I take those magazine numbers with a grain of salt the size of Mt. Everest.
