My windshield wipers on my 99 GT seem to have a mind of their own. When driving down the road, sometimes my wipers come on without me turning them on. Sometimes they might do 1 cycle, sometimes 2 or 3. Today while using my wipers with the delay on, the delay seemed to change. It would cycle normal then maybe do 2 or 3 cycles in a row then go back to the delay. Any ideas? Is my motor going bad or is it my switch? Any help would be appreciated.

thw switch sounds like it is going bad. the motor is good as long as the wip[ers work. it is just getting a bad signal from somewhere. most likely the wiper switch

I have the same exact problem... I was having a problem with my odometer going crazy too but I took apart my gauge cluster and since then I haven't had any problems. I'll have to take a look at the switch... I'll let you guys know what I find out

There is a tech bulletin just about this problem. I had the same thing on my 2000 GT. Very annoying to be driving along and the wipers would sometimes come on just once and then off. Other times it was multi-wipe.

I went to the Ford dealer and ordered a new switch. It the entire stalk unit.
It's not hard to replace once you get the lower cover off the steering column.
There were 4 screws on the one side and 1 on the other to remove the lower
cover. Also had to take off the lower kick plate to get to the last screw.
Then there were only 2 screws holding on the wiper/turn signal unit. It wasn't
quite as easy to unplug the wiring harnesses though. Once out, just do the
opposite to install.
