my question is what is the strength of the 2v block in the gt and the 4v block in the marh1

what can the motor take as far as max power before it brakes and power that the motor can run safely like with nos or a blower

and what are the weak links in each motor


and last can the motors be swapped out say from a cobra to a gt or a marh1 to a gt

thxs


example : mustang gt 2v sohc max hp is (260-?????)
: weak link is (rods)
: straight swap with buillet

2valve=junk internals

4valve= forged cobra crank, everything else junk

500hp can be supported in either block, if you upgrade the 4valve most companys sell the iron over the alum because iron is stronger, but you can get upgraded alum at a higher price.

Better question is, what setup are trying to achive?

i was looking at one of the import books and saw the 1000hp club they were all supras (all 4 of them ) and the crank on the supras was stock very very strong

it got me thinking about the cobra crank and how strong it was

i was thinking

moderate 400-500hp

and a

high 600-900hp

so my true question would be whats need for a 650+/- mustang
lets say boost of some kind

whats need to get a strong motor

i mean on a gt is there any part of the motor that you can keep

i know the cobra has a strong crank but everything else is weak right

Either engine can make the power you are looking for, and contrary to tomustangs opinion, the Aluminum block can take the hp numbers you are wanting, especially the 96-98 Teksid blocks.

Either bottom end will need to have better internals put in there, unless you are starting with an 03-04 4V out of a Cobra.

The question is, what engine is a better platform to acheive the HP numbers you are looking for. As someone who has owned a 99GT and still owns a 96 Cobra, I would lean towards the 4V, but that is always open to discussion and debate.

Personally if I was going to do a buildup with a 2V, I would go with the 99-00 block, and if I was going to do a 4V buildup, I would go with the 96-98 block.

Get a DSS, or VT block - forged Manley pistons with about an 8.5:1 compression ratio, Manley H or I beam rods, Cobra crank, and a good set of bearings - MPH/Patriot/Fox Lake/VT Heads, stage 2/3 (whatever they happen to offer) - run about a .580-.590 lift on the cam and throw a KB blower @ about 22 psi - that will make some nice power. Or you can go with a ProCharger F1R centrifugal blower. Get some 50# injectors, dual fuel pumps from steeda or cobra tank/pumps, suggesting different fuel rails (contact Fox Lake for the company they used to make P-51 rails) LT headers, X pipe and any catback, throw some water/methanol injection to it and you'll be making some impressive power. Now to get it all to the ground, thats a different story. Anyone want to comment my setup?

Yes they are forged and yes they will bolt into a 99 motor. Your stock block will be just fine.

I would go with a different piston though ford runs them tight in the cobras and in high HP alllications that can cause problems. There are alot of guys with big numbers and no issues though.


As for power they say 600 is the limit of the rods but keep the rpms down under 6k and it will live beyond that. Once again there are alot of people that are over that with manley rods.
