Does anybody know the overall width or the housing flange to flange measurement of the GT rear end? I've tried searching for the info but all I can find is that the '99-newer rears are a little wider than earlier rears (which I already knew) but I can't find any actual measurements. I'm looking for the simplest and least expensive way to upgrade the 8" rear in my '73 to something stronger and add disc brake while I'm at it. If I can find a late model 8.8 that is close to the right width it should be a fairly straight forward operation to cut off any unnecessary brackets and have spring pads welded on in the right location so I can bolt the new rear in.
