Hey all,

Had a question my 99 V6 engine needs to be replaced and have an opportunity to put a 99 cobra engine in it. Does anyone know all the things i might have to change to make it a successful swap? i would greatly appreciate any help out there.

4v swap

you will need a lot of stuff. go to modularfox.com to get an idea of most of the stuff. i did the swap in my 2000 v6. if the car is an original automatic forget it. do something else or buy a cobra.

you need a:

transmission; t-3650, t-3550, t-45, or buy an aftermarket modular behousing for your t-5 but i wouldnt recommend it.

if you want power brakes you need a whole hydroboost setup because the vacuum boost is too big. you need the power steering pump, reservoir, lines, steering rack, hydroboost brake booster, master cylinder and impossible to find hoses. you have to fabricate a little too. or you can go with manual brakes.

you need a new flywheel and clutch because the cobra has an 8 bolt flywheel pattern. you want to also install an ajustable clutch quadrant and firewall adapter so you get good cable action. the v6 is pretty weak and gives too much. this will cause you to suck at shifting when the power from the v8 kicks in.

you need an engine harness and ecu. the ecu has to have a chip burnt for it so you can disable the PATS(passive anti-theft system) and unnecessary sensors. this is where it gets very confusing and expensive. to make things easy but also more expensive, you can get a stand alone system from F.A.S.T. or ACCEL or Painless releases their new sytem Feb2007 for 4v.

you need a lot of patience because i made the swap and its not easy. if this is your dailydriver i would find a good method of transportation when you start the project. this project is expensive and i would not start it until you have EVERYTHING you need. i am still running my 7.5" rear end with .410 gears and traction-lock diff. also if you want to ever install longtubes now would be a good time when the engine is out.

once again this is not cheap. with everything this whole setup ran me $5200. thats all junkyard parts and i did it myself with no help. im sure you can imagine how much it would cost if a shop did it. theres a lot more to it but i dont have all day to type it up. i had pictures of the whole thing on my labtop that i was going to post but some ******* decided he needed my new dell more than me.

if you can accomplish this swap on your own, you deserve an award, its very frustrating. i would have dreams about wiring diagrams, throwout bearings, coolant flow, this ***** never got outta my head and almost drove me crazy until the day i finally finished it and the engine ran. it would really help to have a buddy who works for ford help you out. i drove the guys down the street at the local dealership nuts. good luck.

I would rather buy a new car than go through all of that. Even if it works it sounds like you would be asking for onoging problems down the road.

if you are dead set on doing the swap i would buy a totaled GT and then you have all the parts you need.
