Here's the email I just sent the Chief Editor...Doubt he will get through it before deleting it but I had to write it! I guess its old news but its in reference to the Jan. 04 Issue of Hot Rod Magazine.......in which they compare the Subaru WRX to the CObra..
NO WONDER there are so many bad ass kids out there who think there WRX can beat a CObra...they must have read this article....in which the cobra runs 13.3 to the WRX 13.2! and they recommend a gear change to make the cobra do better..
Dear Sir:
I doubt any good will come of writing this, but I have to get this off my mind!
I had never read your magazine until tonight when someone gave me Januarys publication. I doubt I will read it again after reading the Cobra/Subaru Article. I am surprised you published it because it contains so many errors.
I also have to wonder who you had "test drive" the Cobra. I own one and as a novice driver I ran 12.76 on stock tires. I have seen test drivers from Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords both at Englishtown racing and at Crazyhorse Racing dynoing the car. They had the car before it was even released to the showrooms. They also ran 12s...MID 12s!
What you never mention in your article is that the Cobra actually puts out more than the advertised 390. IN fact, it almost puts that out at the wheels. The 03-04 Mustang Cobra is a 12 second car. Its no match for a Subaru and it's really sad you compared them.
You mention a gear change? There's no way that would help anyone. They complained about the car spinning the tires. Changing to 4.10s means you have to use 5th gear. The cars already got plenty of torque and everyone had already figured out that a gear change is plain stupid well before your January Issue came out.
With StickyTires, a chip and a smaller pulley, people including myself, are running high to mid 11 second quarter miles in the Cobra. No Subaru can do that. OH and the blowing up rear you so professionally mention in your article is the result of poor drivers who experience wheel hop (most likely because they didnt lower the tire preasure or just dont know how to launch). Thats when the rear goes...or when people run well over 500HP and use slicks.
I just can't believe you published an article that is so false. I am surprised that Ford can't do anything to you for putting false negative information out there about their product.
Have you read the latest Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords Magazine where they compare the three V8 Mustangs? They ran 12s in the Convertible CObra! In case you didnt know, convertibles are heavier by 180 or so pounds!
Fire your "Test Drivers" then maybe I'll start reading your magazine.
Thank you...if you actually took the time to read all of this!
Sincerely
Jason Miklowcic
