The thought recently crossed my mind of deleting my A/C. Call me crazy, I live in kansas and its usually about 110 w/ 95 humidity in July and August here, but I thought about it, and I never use the A/C. Whenever its above 60-70, no matter how hot it is, I just put the top down. What are the advantages of deleting A/C? If it gets me like 2 HP and loses 10 lbs, I don't think its worth it. Just looking for opinions here, especially from anyone who has actually done this. Thanks.

If you never use it anyway, may as well ditch it. It is really only a drag when it is on, acts as an idler when off. the main advantage to removing it is cleaning up the engine bay and loosing weight

I've heard someone say that it's about 80 lbs. and another say about 55 lbs. So that's about .05 to .08 more in the 1/4 mile. It may also help with engine cooling since removing the condensor will unblock the radiator. I plan on doing mine and I have about the same weather as you. I never use mine either...

Like GTPhreak said it cleans up the engine bay. You will be suprised how much cleaner it looks under the hood with all the ac piping and lines removed. And it will be much easier to change the driver side plugs.

I forget how much it all weighed together (piping, ac rad, ac compressor etc) but i believe it was atleast 15-20lbs.

Anybody have a pic of an engine bay with deleted A/C?

Red - If your not gonna put it back in, u can just cut all the pipes and yank it all (given that the system is empty). You wont need an "ac delete kit", since that pulley is not needed.

I think i have a pic, ill have to look.

I'm thinking of taking mine out too. The smog pumps gone, the EGR tube also so why not? But I think I'd like to keep it in one piece so if I ever sell the car I can give them a box and say "here, this is your AC". I've heard the tough parts are the hoses on the fire wall and the radiator stuff. Looks like the belt will just be able to clear the radiator hose with no problem. Put an extra lower hose in the car in case.
