i'm having an issue with my a/c after i took my car to the shop for an auto - manual tranny switch. the a/c just won't cool the air down, seems like hte compressor's just not working. i've checked the fuses, the wire plugging into the compressor, those seem fine.

i'm thinking about next checking the freon, but i want to make sure i'm checking the right port. i see the one on the driver side by the firewall, then the one pretty much dead center of the car, towards the passenger side of the engine. my book says it's the driver side, but everywhere else is saying the low port is right near the compressor. wish people would just get their facts straight already

I believe the LP port is in the line from the evaporator (inside the car) to the compressor. It should be the one on the driver's side near the firewall.

I just did the A/C in my wife's Miata. I bought one of the kits from Interdynamics with a gauge on it. The quick connect fitting on the hose will (I believe) only fit on the LP port. If I remember right, the LP port is smaller than the HP port - sort of makes it goof proof. By the way, that kit works great.
