Whenever i have the a/c on in my car and if im driving down the road and push in the clutch and the compressor is on..the idle jumps up and down close to stalling and it will stall sometimes, if im idling and the compressor goes on the idle drops, what can cause this?, i was told it could be a problem with the computer not raising the idle...

this happened to me, and the actual compressor was shot, and i replaced the switches for it too....i forget what they are called, the high pressure switch? some one correct me if im wrong, and once i replaced all of that it ran fine

Sorry to butt in.

Do any of you guys know if an A/C compressor is hard to install? Mine has been shot since I bought the car and I just got the replacement from eBay. I just wanted to find out from someone if it is a pain in the ass to put in, or if its an easy 5 minute job. Thanks!

Easy enough to install. Only a few bolts to hold it on aside from the a/c lines up top. It'll take about 1/2 an hour as long as it comes with the clutch on the front of it. Then you'll need to get the a/c system charged as well.

You will also have to have the system vacuumed out and put in a new dryer, once you open the system...air gets into it and that is the A/C's main enemy.

Clean the IAC with throttle body cleaner. Clean the electrical contacts & 10 pin connectors. For more help, see the Sticky"Help me create the Surging Idle Checklist" at the top of the forum.

My IAC must be bad with the a/c on, perhaps the compressor messes with the IAC, oh wait thats impossible
Jrichker's recommendation is exactly what I would have recommended as well. the IAC increases its duty cycle to accomodate the extra load from the compressor.

and this happens with the car idling or with it rolling? the puter will maintain a rolling idle ~1200-1500 RPM when idling but rolling (to help keep from stalling). seems to me that it uses the VSS and puter input to recognize this condition and implement it. but if your issue happens at static idle as well, that would not be my first guess.

have you recently had the system charged? if overcharged, it can bog the compressor down.

the computer and A/C are closely related. amongst other things, when the ECT reaches a certain threshold (around 240*F, IIRC), it will shut down the A/C for you. lots of stuff going on there.

FWIW, you asked for help and we are trying to help you. I personally would not post a  smilie to someone trying to help, especially one of the SN wisemen like Jrichker.

good luck with it. :)
