It all started about 3 weeks back when me and 2 buddies went on a trip to Tampa, on the way down the A/C went out and during the trip down we kept tryin it but it wouldn't blow cold. Then the night we got there after the car cooled down it blew cold, now it works on and off. Sometimes you turn it on and it just blows air, turn it on an hour later and it blows cold. Could the freon be low?? Other than that i have no clue.

Sounds very much like you are low on 134a. It will automatically cut the compressor clutch off when it senses low refrigerant pressure, thus the cold/not cold condition. Buy a can of R134a and the hose to load it with. Use 1/2 of the can and see if that triggers the compressor to remain on. If it does, the that was the problem. Let it be with 1/2 the can, then if/when it cuts out again install the rest. They sell the install hoses with a built in pressure gauge if you want to be precise.

most likely the low side cycling switch is bad. could also be a CCRM fault or a high side switch,.

Yep what he said. I had the same problem with my 97 and was told on another A/C thread here that the low side cycling switch was bad. The part only cost like 12 bucks at ORalley's or Autozone. Give it a try. I tried to attach a pic of 4point6's underhood. Hopefully he doesn't mind, but anyway I circled in red the switch that I replace that gave me instant cold A/C...:D
