My A/C compressor is ten years old and I have a hole in my seal of my A/C compressor and the A/C charge leaks. The A/C doesn't come out cold but, luke warm out of the A/C vents. Guys should I get a brand new A/C compressor or get the one I have now rebuild? What's the best bet?

do you know where the leak is? is it one of the green rubber seals on the back of the compressor where the manifold line plugs in? if so you can get those at most part stores, fix the leak and have somebody evac and recharge the system ( you need to have the evac done, if this is not done you will have problems)

IF you had it recharged properly and it's still warm it could be things other than the compressor a orifice tube is one thing that can cause that problem.

so here is what you need to do.

1. fix known leak

2. recharge system properly ( no little cans of r-134.. you need to have evac and vacuum pulled on the system)

3. if cold enjoy your a/c and go to step 4 if not cold skip step 4 for now and go to step 5

4. have beer(s)

5. hook up guagues to a/c high and low sides and get me presure readings, also I need to know the duty cycle of the /c compresor.. as in how often does it cycle on for then how long it stays off for, and I need to knwo the weather conditions ( temp, humidity)

if I happen to miss your post PM me to remind me.

The leak is coming from the bottom of the A/C compressor. It leaks
the A/C charge.I had it looked at they told me that the seal on the compressor has a hole in the it and I would be better off just buying a new
A/C compressor instead of rebuilding the old one.I just want a second opnion.
Thanks for the reply Mike!

Some ford compressors you can replace the front shaft seal on. I know I just replaced the one on my bronco, even though every parts store I went to told me I'd have to get a whole new compressor.

Thanks alot for the info I just ordered a brand new A/C compressor from Ford because the ten year old one I have now is starting to make a wine
sound when I turn on the A/C. I belive my current A/C compressor just
bit the dust.

Just remember, you can't just bolt it on and fill it with antifreeze. Unless you have a vacuum pump and manifold guages, you'll have to take it somewhere to recharge the system.

Well, I use the little cans, but I have an air compressor that I can swap the valve on to make it pump, and a set of manifold guages. I just don't have access to the big drum of r134

QUESTION???

Sometimes, (most of the time) when I turn the knob to A/C, the ompressor clicks on 3-5 times. I'm used to 1 click.

Now, I just had this car at Ford to get the compressor re-charged (had a few bad o-rings) And the A/C blows freezing air.

Does anyone elses cars click the compressor on more than once (well, on/off etc)?

that will work, but not many people on here own a set of manifold guages or the pump.

Mike do you have to evac the system if there is no r-134 in the system
because my A/C right now only pushes out warm to hot air?

yes to get a proper charge you need to evac the system anytime it's been opened, then pull a vacuum on it and fill into the vacumm. this really should be done by a professional. if it was cold and not hot again you problally have a leak.

You can get this pump if you have access to an air compressor http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=92475 , then just bring it somewhere and have them recharge it.. might save you 30 or 40 bucks. Most places around here want ~35 bucks just to vacuum the system, then another 50 for the time to rechage, plus like 15 bucks per pound of refrigerant.
