i have a few question about my a/c system. i have a 87 2.3l that has a/c but does not work....may need re-charging..not sure. my turbo motor i'm puting in has no a/c...the dude i bought it off of said it had ac...but they took it off. one of my question's is will the a/c system from my 87 work with my 86 turbo motor...brackets mainly....???? i also have heard it would be cheaper to convert my old r-13 to r-134a. is this true??? i had planed to take all my a/c crap out of my car.....but i'm in florida......and it's very very very hot during the day so i need some cold air. some please help me!!!!!

one more thing.....anyone know where i can get a rebuild kit for my 86 turbo motor....minus the pistons...don't need them?????
thanks to everyone in advance!!

the 87 bracket wont work. I know...I tried...hell I even tried to trim the bracket to no avail.

I've got an 88 with an 86 TC engine. I was an idiot and threw away the TC a/c compressor and brackets because I wanted to go to the later serpentine setup from the mustang only to realize that not even the bracket itself would fit. The turbo gets completely in the way.

gotta find a bracket/compressor AND condensor from an 87-88 TC (condensor and compressor can be bought at the parts store) but the bracket is a JY part only....as are the lines unless you have major $$$ to dish out.

just swap your mustang pullys and brackets on to the turbo motor, it will fit. on the later A/C compressors you have to bend the lines a little to clear the turbo, but on the shorter compressors you have plenty of room. Either way it should not be a problem. You probably want to keep your serpentine setup anyway.

Dr.

P.S. yes. converting to 134A is safer and cheaper than R12. I have done it, and it works wonderfully.

$20 kit from wal-mart comes with everything you need cept for a vacuum pump.

If you have working a/c now with r12 in it you can go by any a/c shop and tell them that if they evacuate the r12 and then pull down a vacuum on your system for you, you'll give them the r12 from the system for free. I think market price for r12 is about $40-60 an ounce which is why they normally have NOOOO problem sucking a vacuum on your system for you for free.

once you have the vacuum pulled on the system you can go home and follow the instructions on the wal-mart kit and have r134a in no time.

That sounds easy enough. i thought that my 87 a/c bracket would fit on my 86 turbo motor.....i guess i'll have to bend the lines....or have some custom line made to make it work. but thanks to everyone .....later
