I got my 86 Gt pulled apart down to the front of the block; even got fenders off and ALL interior torn out except the dash, so now I can access everything. BTW, it only had 45K original miles on it.
I decided to overhaul this A/C completely (everything new) being that the car has been in storage for a loooooong time! Besides that, the system has been empty for as many years of the R12.
I do plan on throwing in another motor down the road, but wanted to get back in the seat with this motor to keep up my enthusiasim. I don't think that will effect anything though. LMK?
WHAT UPGRADES CAN I DO TO THIS A/C OVERHAUL?
* Can I use some stuff from later models for future ease of maintenance?
* Conversion is a must, but whats a good method?
* The lines are the old clip style - I would love to find a way to use the modern couplers style.
* Drier and main line are one piece - don't like that...
* Need to pull the DASH back - this is a bit scary for me as I don't want to pull something apart and forget it during the re-install
* Whatever else I might run into...
