what is an fmx automatic transmission?is there a difference?

and the 347 stroker kits are said to be a ticking time bomb since you dont know how long it'll last but theres this kit that made it so it wouldnt have the same problems with the pistons and all. do any of you know wich kit im talking about?

yes, the fmx is a transmission with an aluminum bellhousing while a banana is a fruit, yellow and perishable.

The FMX is the grand daddy of the AOD. It's a late 50's design ( not sure on exactly when) thats stronger than a C-4 and about on a par with the C-6. Back in the late 60's to mid 70's they were the transmission of choice with hot small blocks. They're still good ones and almost bullit proof, but the aftermarket has left them behind.

The FMX was an early 70's experiment from Ford, hence the name, FMX,(Ford Motors Experimental). There is virtually no aftermarket support and it is a very heavy transmission. The C4 can easily be built to outlast and outperform it at a far lighter weight.
As far as 347's go, only buy a kit or engine that has the oil control ring, ( the bottom ring), below the groove in the piston that holds the ring. Many early and lesser kits had the oil ring intersecting this groove which caused oil consumption, weak ring longevity, and contaminated oil. The rod ratio was also not that good but later kits have solved these problems with shorter, stronger pistons and better rod ratios. Coast High Performance is a good place to talk to.

I think you may be referring to a problem some 347s have with burning oil???

The kit I think you are talking about is from probe. its not really a kit though. The oil ring on the piston is relocated so it does not burn oil. A properly built 347 is, in no way, a ticking time bomb.
