I took the saleen out for a little while today. I noticed the intercooler gauge would rise up half way and then quickly drop back down. This would happen while driving and at a stand still. Is this normal? Maybe I'm just not understanding how exactly to read the gauge, any help? Also, my saleen came with an x-pipe (since it's a 03 model ) but the 4 cats are holding back some sound. I was wondering if any of you had changed this out for another pipe. If so what did you put on and how is the sound? Thank you-Al

I'm thinking about going with a SLP catback on mine.
But I want a loud ballsy monster. I have also wondered about the
4 cats?? 2 look like ford oem cats, and 2 look like magnaflow cats.
Does anyone know? Can we just weld up different mufflers since
we already have a 2.5in catback?

2002 came with x-pipe also. I took mine off and put on an off road one on. I think it sounded great.

off road x will make alot more noise, but won't give you that much more horsepower than an aftermarket x pipe with cats. i say change the x-pipe but do not go off road. depending on where you live if you get caught making to much noise by johnny law your gonna get a hefty fine and have to put on an xpipe with cats anyway. i heard a guy with one chamber flowmasters and it sounded nice, i normally DO NOT recommend flows at all but if you are looking for some noise that might be a way of getting it. also check out bassani xpipes with 2 cats.

My 99 came with the stock H-pipe. I had a VRS off-road on for a while, MUCH louder.
I now have a Magnaflow X w/cats, and it's too quiet... I don't want to pay the ticket
if I get caught without the cats, so I'll stay with the Magnaflow...

As for the intercooler gauge... Definately doesn't sound right. It's nothing more than a
temperature gauge, so you shouldn't see any real swings. It should be a gradual up or
down like an engine temp gauge. Off hand, it sounds like the temp sending unit in the
bottom of the intercooler fill tank might be flaky. I'm assuming you can hear the pump
and the fans working while this is happening?

Only one thing happened to the Borla setup. The Magnaflow setup is cheaper than the Borla. Not cheaper in quality by any means, and some like the sound of the Magnaflows and some like the sound of the Borla's. That is why it on the 03's and up. It was a price move. Heard it from the inside.
I'm a little afraid. For those of you guys that are old like I am, it feels a little like it felt in 1990 around here for Saleen.
I hope the new owner does some great things. All Saleen needs to do is win some MAJOR races with the S7, build a car for indy and get a couple of heart transplants, and live to be 80.
Then maybe my cars will be worth what they want for a clean 65 GT 350 right now. Damn. I want one of those really bad.
