A few maintanence questions......

when I take my car out, I want to do a pretty thourogh tune-up on it. Not putting on the best stuff out there, but I just want to have stuff thats a bit stonger than stock.
Im lookin to:
Change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
The oil and oil filter (what brand filter is popular?)
The gas filter, will prob just use a wix.
Getting a k&n, and cutting out the air intake silencer.
And Im gonna change the front brakes, and pull of the drum and see how the rears are.
Is there anythingthing else I should change? And what brands would you suggest for these parts?
thanks.

swap out all fluids, give the suspension and drivetrain a once over, etc (u joints, mounts, ball joints, bushings, and on and on and on). :)

i use FL 1A's for oil filter.

I'd try to use as many ford parts as possible, here is why I say that.

The Ford plug wires are probably the best out there.

Same could be said for the plugs, cap and rotor.

If you change your coil - i'd go with a crane (some people don't see the benifit)

For the Oil filter: Stay away from Fram. I'd use the Motorcraft filter there also..

The oil is really up to you to choose. Depending on how good your car holds oil pressure, miles and of course $$$ always plays a role.

Also, while you are under the hood... look at all your hoses and wires. That would be a really good time to do some preventive maintanince.

Check the brakes / flush the brake fluid with a buddy.

And start thinking about changing out shocks / struts if the car feels spongy going down the road.

Edit: Forgot to add the O2 sensors if they are original. Those usually go bad ~60K mile

Im not so familiar with the different types of coils for this engine, can someone fill me in?

I will be changing the shocks, but Im gonna start a new thread for choosin those because I know theres alot of options.

And yea, I will change the brake fluid and bleed the brakes.

Fram filters are made of cardboard and can come apart internally. When this happens, it blocks the flow of precious oil to your motor... Then... KA-BOOM! (if your not paying attention)

Good Luck and enjoy.

Edit: There are 3 or 4 basic brands of coils. Accel, MSD, Crane and Mallory (Not sure is all these brands make the coil for the Mustang). Of these I have used Accel, MSD and Crane but not all on the same car at the same time. My top two choices are Accel and Crane. MSD parts can fail prematurely. Right now, I have a Crane PS-91 coil on my vert and it has really helped with idle issues that I was having.

:nice:

For plugs hitting the exhaust I had to pick up some of the boot insulators. Before I did this I burned a hole in at least one wire in every set I bought. And yes, I was very careful when routing them. I found the biggest problem to be the 45 degree boots. Since switching to 90 deg boots and insulators I have had no problems.
There is a thread in here on how bad (in most peoples minds) the Fram filters are.
Good Luck
