Ok, this is a little off-topic, but I figured you 5.0 guys may know a little something since a 1989 Ford Probes EFI system is somewhat similar to the 5.0

Anyway, a couple of days ago my friend started his car after getting off of work. As soon as he took off the engine stumbled and died. Well, after that, it just wouldn't start. So we dragged it back home and checked for spark and fuel, it had both. It would fire for a split second when you tried to start it then it would quit. So, we cranked and cranked and it finally started up, blowing out all the rich fumes. The problem it's having now is if you abrubtly get on the throttle it will stumble badly and bogs really bad, as if the mixture just got thrown way off. If you ease the throttle slowly, it will rev fine. But, if you push it a little faster it will stumble and bog. The check engine light is not on. Would do you think it could be? TPS or MAF maybe? Thanks for any help.

Speeddemon, if all else fails, let me know if anything on that car is like a 95 probe - my sis has one (MECS) and im halfway familiar with it. i know of a couple forums for those things too - in case you want to try there.

also, just cause no CEL is on (or was on) the car could have tossed a code. i might pull codes to see if anything is in the KAM.

oh yeah, if you feel inclined, cleaning the IAC (it could be a real problem on later probes/mazdas), check the tps, clean maf wire (if applicable), etc.

and i dont think mods are gonna like this thread - if you have other ideas or thoughts (info i might have on forums, etc), i would be more than happy to communicate through P.M.'s

good luck.
