A Little Problem with A Snapped off Fitting

Hey guys,

My air compressor today was not holding pressure so I decided to track down why it would not go above 60 psi. I found out the exhaust fitting was cracked. I took the fitting off of the pipe and then tried to take it out of the cylinder head. The cheap ****ty material the fitting was made out of just twisted and snapped. I am now left with the picture below.

What options do I have to get it out and contacting the company is not one of them since they filed Chapter 11?

I bet the exhaust port is some sort of standard pipe thread, so you might be able to break that piece out and run like a 5/8" NPT tap through it to clean the threads back up. If you can somehow get a notch into the inside diameter of the pipe, you could also try to turn it with a small screwdriver and a hammer, by tapping against the notch.

Exactly what Stang said. What I would do is get a flat head screw driver, a rag or something that will create grip and wrap that on the head of the screw driver. Then go to work on it. I've had some sort of the same problem with my bronco. It's gonna take some sweat and frustration, but it should come out once enough force is applied.

if you have a tap set with a big enough tap, i would try and tap some threads into what material is left there. then put a bolt in with as much red locktite i could get on there, and let it sit over night. then you could try and back it out.

i've had the same prob with the fitting going into the tank. broke off flush. what i did was take a really big screwdriver or chisel that barely fits into the fitting and drive that sucker home. now just unscrew the fitting with the screwdriver inside. the copper fitting is fairley soft.
if that doesn't work take a hacksaw blade and cut 3-4 slots opposite each other inside the fitting making sure you don't cut into the head. that should weaken the fitting enough to be chipped out.

Thanks for all the info guys...I tried many of the ways but the metal was too brittle and it would just keep on stripping. I wound up getting a screw extractor to fit and get snug, when I was turning it the whole head decided to crack then the fitting. So I got screwed there.

I saw that harbor freight had a compressor that looked almost the same (just maybe a little bit cheaper of a version) so I am contacting them about trying to get a cylinder head.
