A long wait gets even longer, and a question

Hi All, new to the forum, but not to Mustangs. A question. I ordered my 05 Mustang GT on 3/10. I spoke to my dealer earlier today that I've dealt with in the past and was told that some "big shot" at Ford sent a memo to Ford dealers stating that only 1/2 the remaining orders for the GT would be filled as 05s, with the remaining being filled as 06s, and I wouldn't see my car until the fall. Has anyone else had this problem? I visited the dealer in person, and he called his Ford rep, which in turn blamed Dearborn. I don't understand why they're having problems making 200,000 mustangs at 1 plant, but no problems cranking out nearly 1,000,000 F-Series pickups in 4 plants. 3 long months down, and 3+ even longer months to go. :( Thanks for listening. Kevin

The question is whether the dealer is being honest or has something else in mind like another buyer or something. I ordered my GT on the Z plan ($3200 under MSRP) on 2/7 and picked it up on 5/16. I introduced myself to the inventory manager and talked only with him about the vehicle during those 3 months. Then when it arrived the dealership did not want to sell it to me. I had an order confirmation and by the time of delivery I had a copy of the invoice. My name was on the invoice and the window sticker and they tried every trick in the book to try to piss me off and get me to leave the dealership without the car. Someone reading this forum must have a connection at Ford who can verify that only 1/2 of remaining GT orders will be filled as 05's. Good Luck. Jim

520- sounds fishy...I just placed an order in for 05 last week..one of our dealers is taking the piss.

Vettesky- Did they try to mark it up on you when you went to pick it up? I'm worried my dealer is going to try this even though we already agreed on the price. I wonder if the paperwork the inventory manager sends over will have the price we agreed on?

No. They did not try to mark it up. I had "Z-plan pricing" written on the order confirmation by the salesman so I think they had to honor it. All there was to pay was z-plan ($24,445) + 2.9% sales tax....nothing else. I arrived at the dealership at 8:45 to make the purchase and did not get out of there until 1:45. I found the car on their lot and notified them it was in (not the other way around) and at one point they tried to give me back my $500 deposit. I will NEVER go back to this dealership again. I have a complaint with both Ford Motor Company Customer Releations and the BBB pending. The GT is hard to get and you have to be patient during the order fullfillment process. You can try to be as straight forward as possible with these car dealers but they are just a bunch of dishonest conniving SOB's that try to bleed the last penny of profit from their customers when its all said and done. I know there are some good ones out there (like Purifoy Chev in Colorado) but not many. Jim

I think theres something fishy here too. But I've been calling Fords Customer Service to make sure the dealer isn't pulling a fast one and they said the car is still c/u, but wouldn't confirm/deny the 1/2 GTs as 05s vs 06s. Guess I'll just keep calling both to make sure the storys straight, ie, if Ford CS gives me a VIN and B/D, and the dealer doesn't, then we know somethings funky here. But this dealer has a good reputation and has been around for many years, so I think they're on the level. I'm getting the car for $300 below MSRP, so I really don't want to give up on it yet. Thanks, Kevin

I still can't believe what the dealers are getting for these things, I know there nice cars, and we as mustangers have a crazy passion for them, but everyone is getting ripped off. I ordered my 2000GT, paid $500 below invoice, and the dealer still made a fair proft (3%). We are allowing these dealers to take advantage of us, I'm afraid to see how bad they are going to over price the new cobra! Which of course I want, but I can already see my self choking someone at the dealership.
Sorry I know it's off topic....on topic.... I also heard that the new ordered stangs will be 06's from other stang sites.

If its an consolation, I just toured the factory Friday & They are working the employees 10 & 12 hours,7 days a week. The workers said there are no shortages of parts & They're working at filling backorders. This car is worth the wait.

I totally agree this car is worth the wait. As time goes by after a test drive and before delivery you kind of forget exactly what it was that you liked so much about the vehicle. This car is pretty awesome. I think ford nailed it on the IUP, stereo, handling and exhaust note. Acceleration over 100 or 110 is not as fast as I would like or expect but I would rather sacrifice that and have the car design like it is (not real aerodynamic). When you consider the cost at $26k to $28k, it is a pretty good value.
