A New 2007 Problem- Anyone heard of a Similar situation?

After 180 miles, I have had three (3) problems, all the same thing and related to a faulty electrical problem.

At 2 miles, 70 miles and now at 180 miles (total is one month after delivery), this problem is stumped the dealer and probably, Ford.

Specifically, about 1/2 the gauges go out of wack. Oil, brake, fuel, traction control, doors, etc. Al the warning lights go off and all are (hopefully) working.

Busers, lights are all falshing, buzzing.

Codes were " UOO73-60- IC & U1900-60-IC".

Dealer has it now & I have told them keep it untill it is fixed-- although it breaks my heart to imply I would give up this ride.

Has anyone heard of a similar problem?

Maybe mice got in to the wire harness while it was sitting in the lot or on the train? :)

Good luck and definitely make them keep it until it's fixed. I'd even call up Ford and moan. Maybe get some freebies, heh.

I dislike hearing this. :( This appears to be specific to your vehicle.

I'll ask Mike to get back to you via PM with the codes. I could not locate them on my DC database under standard DCs. Svttech has all the goodness, so let me confirm with him. I had a 93 Explorer that did this. I dumped it and got a 96. Keep all key tags and WOs.

U codes are network problems. Sounds like a couple of modules are having a problem talking to each other on a multiplex network. Keep us updated. I'd definitely like to know whats up.
 
Those are both comunication faults and the instrument cluster serves as the network hub/gateway module. This combined with the other problems you are having it's most likely a bad cluster. If you can find out what steps they have done to diag and fix this please let me know.

BTW there is lots of programming issues that can come up after module replacement, this could be part of the problem too.

Vehicle communication utilizes the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 network, the medium speed controller area network (MS-CAN), and the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) network. Information is sent to and from individual control modules that each control specific functions. All 3 networks are connected to the data link connector (DLC). The DLC can be found under the instrument panel between the steering column and the audio unit.

The 3 module communication networks are:

ISO 9141
Medium speed (MS) CAN
High speed (HS) CAN
All 3 networks are connected to the DLC. This makes diagnosis and testing of these systems easier by allowing one scan tool to be able to diagnose and control any module on the 3 networks from one connector. The ISO 9141 communication network is a single wire network, used for diagnostic purposes only.

The ISO 9141 communication network is used for the following module:

MS-CAN Network Operation

The MS-CAN network communicates using bussed messages. The MS-CAN has an unshielded twisted pair cable, data bus (+) and data bus (-) circuits. In addition to scan tool communication, this network allows sharing of information between all modules on the network.

The MS-CAN is a medium speed communication network used for the following modules:

Instrument cluster
Audio control module
SJB
SDARS (if equipped)
HS-CAN Network Operation

The HS-CAN network uses an unshielded twisted pair cable, data bus (+) and data bus (-) circuits. In addition to scan tool communication, this network allows sharing of information between all modules on the network.

The HS-CAN is a high speed communication network used for the following modules:

Instrument cluster
PCM
ABS module (if equipped)
Network Termination

The CAN network uses a network termination circuit to improve communication reliability. The network termination of the CAN bus takes place inside the termination modules by termination resistors. Termination modules are located at either end of the bus network. As network messages are broadcast in the form of voltage signals, the network voltage signals are stabilized by the termination resistors. Each termination module has a 120 ohm resistor across the positive and negative bus connection in the termination module. With 2 termination modules on each network, and the 120 ohm resistors located in a parallel circuit configuration, the total network impedance, or total resistance is 60 ohms.

Network termination improves bus message reliability by:

stabilizing bus voltage.
eliminating electrical interference.
Gateway Module

The instrument cluster is the gateway module, translating HS-CAN to MS-CAN and vice versa. This information allows a message to be distributed throughout both networks. The instrument cluster is the only module on this vehicle that has this ability.
