It still has some Army green ! It needs a good pressure washing ,collected a lot of dust ,i only use it once or twice a year . All the components, starter ,fuel pump ,generator that i want to change to 1 wire alternator seem to be 53 chevy 6 cylinder ,all but the carburator, its all on its own ,problem is it has a cork float i have had to re make a couple of times

Both ,it is big 4 cylinder that runs on two cylinders and the other two are the compressor ,it also turns a genarator that some day i would like to hook up again . Someone was trying to wire somthing in and didnt reconnect the wireing and i dont have a diagram to hook it back up . It puts out 130 psi and runs a constant 80 psi

That's awesome. Is it a Ford engine?

That wiring should be pretty simple for a guy like you to figure out particularly, if it's a DC generator. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say forget the wiring and just feed generator power straight into a modern solar controller or battery bank.

It would be cool to bring it back to original tho. -then- add a modern power cell with all the outlets etc.

Is it a DC generator or an AC alternator that it's powering?

I'm thinking if you get it back to original then you could add a sine wave converter and external or attachable battery pack.

Anywhooo... Make a thread about it if you get around to doing it.

I recall stories about Ford Model-A engines being repurposed by a company that modified the heads and made air pumps out of them. They were used to help build Mt. Rushmore. They took the entire front of the car down to the tires and made trailers of them.

From what i have been told ,some guy in Texas bought out all the parts for them ,cant remember the name but i do remember he was expensive ,i just have to try to never break it . This one has two air storage tanks ,not sure how big the tanks are but they are pretty good size ,it only takes a couple of minutes to air them up . I need to make a new exhaust system because it is pretty loud as is although as old as the muffler is it is probably burned out.

Time to create an account over at www.smokestack.com

I think there are people there that can run that serial number down for you. The "other" Model-60 that folks are talking about were powered by Ford Flat-Head V-8s. Still looking around for more on your unit. Weird that yours has a generator too and it looks like it's a 110/220 type.

That is a very specific "thing" that the Army would do.

There is something around the top of the motor that turns the generator off and allows the only the compressor to run but i think it is disabled and locked out ,i tried messing with it once but i decided not to because i would be using the compressor more and didnt want to screw up something without knowing how it actually works .

It looks like a good project. A fairly rare [working] museum type piece at the very least.

Thats strange ,i tried searching schramm model 60 and cant find anything like it ,the earlier ones were WW2 and had the flat head ford ,i found a 1952 that had the 4 cylinder but it is totally different ,another one had the military jeep 4 cylinder and one has a Wisconsin 4 cylinder . There must be some kind of military equipment site out there that would show it .

Perhaps but I think the Schramm company got used to using whatever was lying around to make happen. Sometimes Ford, sometimes, GM, sometimes their own stuff. There was a war going on after all.

If somebody on that site I listed can decode that serial number, that would be a good start.
