A pick me up for Heavy GT - Glenn

Status:

Spoke to Glenn live on Renee's phone this afternoon as I called her for status and she was there with him. He's feeling like he got hit by a truck and not up for visitors just yet, so I'm going to hold off till Saturday in making my trip out there.

He's just starting to be able to move a little, and the expectation is he will be able to go home on Sunday 11/2.

Get well soon, Glenn! If you had the surgery at Edward Hospital in Naperville, you'd have to deal with me right now. :D

Just remember these few things and you should be good:
1. It's all downhill from here. The hard part (the surgery itself) is over.
2. Keep using your incentive spirometer, it'll get your lungs reinflated and help prevent pneumonia.
3. Go to cardiac rehab, and keep going as long as you're allowed to. It'll help you get your strength back, and build your cardiovascular endurance back up, and keep your heart working efficiently. You don't want to go into CHF.

he posted here that he could be home by then too, but just because you are released from the hospital doesnt always mean you are back to normal.

anything associated with surgery that will slow him down in daily activities for an extiended period of time?

My grandpa had a similar surgery but not quite to the extent Glenn did. The doctor told my grandpa 3 to 6 weeks of light duty and then some IIRC. I would think the same or a little bit longer at least for Glenn.

But who knows, he may recover a lot quicker! I for one hope he does. Glenn is a super nice guy. I'm glad I've had the pleasure of meeting him in person.

Erin, is he still in intensive care? I just noticed this post is from earlier in the week. But my girlfriend is a nurse in the cardiac ICU at that Hospital, so I wonder if she saw him or anything. then again after open heart he probably would have been in the surgical ICU instead. What is his last name?

Either way, he went to a good hospital, so he's in good hands. Good to hear he is coming home and hopefully he will recover completely. Tell him that if he has any questions or concerns or anything and wants to talk to my gf about his medicine or anything like that let me know.

Hey all, I was leaving the family alone for a bit as it's been hectic, I called his wife today and netted the following:

Glenn's experiencing some problems. Renee is on her way in now to get briefed, she didn't know all the specifics as she was under the impression today would be his release day. He's developed some fluid and some sharp pain as he described it to her, so Glenn is being set up for an ultrasound to get a better analysis.

Told Renee to call me when she has some time.

Big Cat, from what Renee said, his motor skills are down, not a permanant thing but after a surgery like he had he will have trouble walking and getting around like his usual self. I heard 3-6 weeks of being very careful, taking things easy, then he should begin progressing to moving around a bit more normal..

He's experiencing a few complications, Renee is having a rough time, and the hospital Glenn's at is no short commute so it's taxing..

He is in a regular room, not intensive care as of now. Let you all know as I hear more..

All, Glenn's home, got there yesterday afternoon. I didn't talk with him live, we exchanged a few text messages.

Turned out the fluid and pain was caused by a flu he somehow caught while in recovery. They doused him with antibiotics and remedied it pretty quickly.

Not talking live, but taking tone from his text messages, it sounds like he's got a long road to full recovery. He mentioned maybe being fully recovered by Spring. I also mentioned this post was up. He thought he might be able to get online some time today..
