Over the course of my life, I've owned two mustangs.. An 86 LX and an 05 GT.. both of which have a peculiar issue. Every once in a while, the gas gauge goes dead and shows empty, while this could be disconcerting, I found the same remedy worked on both.. I simply tweaked the ignition switch just a little tiny bit.. not enough to really do anything, just turn the key about a millimeter and the gas gauge comes right back on. I thought it was odd that in all my years of driving, in all the different cars that I've owned, I've only experienced this issue with this remedy in my two Mustangs.

... Just curious if anyone else has noticed this weird little quirk?

Had an '88 GT with a bajillion miles and never had that issue (though my headlight switch was flakey lol).

I have not noticed my Gas gauge going dead, 11 GT Premium. So, it may be that they finally got over it.

I have had 8 mustangs: 2 classics, 4 foxes, a 97 Cobra, and my current car.I don't recall any gas gauge issues with any of them.

I'll bet it's the same part number in both cars, whatever it is.

A common cause of ignition problems and related wiring is having a heavy set of keys hanging from the ignition switch...
