if the auto had a shift kit, and the manual driver was just average, who would win? from a dead stop, and from a roll

I have a 2002 auto, stock. My friends Integra GS-R rated at 170hp and like 130tq can almost keep up with me when I floor it from a dead stop.

I think I have the slowest 99+ 4.6 on the road.

I would assume the auto would take it with a shift kit. Sure the 5spd can launch nicely, but the loss of speed while shifting will make a difference. That plus the tq converter... dunno. Probably be somewhat close either way.

Sorry for the double post.

i know how ya feel, ive got the same situation *or at least similar* hes got like full exhaust, aftermarket manifold, cai, and some more stuff that i cant remember. were like dead even from a roll (hes manual) i might pull half a car but i cant gain anymore ground we havent gotten any decent dead stop runs in yet so maybe itd be differnt . granted all i have is a k&n drop in

5 speed for sure, if it only has a shift kit.... If it had a aftermarket torque converter, be a different story tho! ;-)

A shift kit won't make any real difference for the auto. You need a TQ converter. Even then, from a roll a 5 spd would most liekly win. A dead stop would probably go to the auto with a TQ converter.

I drove a friend's stock 02 GT auto a few weeks back. I couldn't believe how much of a slug that thing is. After I dropped it off, I realized I hadn't turned off trac control. How much of a difference does it make? Would it have felt noticbaly faster with it off? Us pre-99 guys don't have to worry about trac control.

Depends what years. The 04 Auto has 3.55 gears, whereas the 99-03 autos and the 99-04 manuals have 3.27 gears. (I have to flaunt the fact that my automatic rules at every opportunity )

I'm stepping up to an 04 5spd soon... I'm just so sick of auto. My only beef w/ the 04 are those nasty 40th anniversary badges. They don't look as sleek as my current "GT" badges....
