A real spring question...

Everyone keeps asking about how this spring or that spring LOOKS, but which one actually handles the best? Now I am sure that this may be a biased opinionated question, but, it is really only for those who have tried different setups in their cars. So, if you have Eibachs and never had anything else, guess what, your opinion really isnt that important. But, if you have had H&R's, then tried the Eibachs or had Ford Racing "C" springs and switched to Steeda springs, please post your opinion here.
Which spring handles the best?
Ride quality is no concern.

Subscribing! MCM, I'd really like to know as well. Many shops around here believe in Steedas only. Eibachs have been known to sag, and aren't C springs really made for the Fox platform?

Well, yes the C springs were originally designed for the foxes, but they have no problems being run on a newer body style car either. Ford manufactures them with a dead coil on them that you can cut if need be to get the stance how you want it. From what I hear, the C springs are great and give a nice (about 1 inch) drop that has a little rake to it. This is what I plan on putting on my car and I am going to combine them with the Mach 1 shocks and struts. Hope this has helped a little.

When talking about springs, the important question to ask is the spring rate, and whether they are linear or progressive. The spring rate is the determining factor of how it handles, and then you have to match the spring rate with the right shocks/struts. What kind of handling are you looking for? Autocross, street, or straight line performance?

Sleepy is right, it really depends what kind of performance you're looking for. If you want autocross type performance, you want the C springs or the Bullitt springs backed up by the appropriate shocks and struts. That's hard fact backed up by US National Champ level drivers. Other than autocross, I can't really help you.

If one was looking for autocross performance, what kind of springs/shocks would he use?

i'm not typw too much but here it goes..


H&R Super Race & the Steeda Full Competition spring sets have a maximum of 1050 rate. It's not really recommended for street use due to such a stiff spring, but you'd have to start ordering more parts to statisfy the rest of the chassis. The rear end is what hurts the most since it's a live axle and road bumps take a toll on the rear rates. You'll notice on any kit (not including IRS) that the rear rates are alot softer than compared to the fronts.

I just installed Bullitt Springs replacing Eibach Sportline's. I am running Tokico Blues shocks/struts.
The car rides much smoother and more controled., It is great off the line compared to the Sportline setup.
I am running the stock 98 sway bars which makes this setup feel much more neutral.

I have a set of H&R race springs and they are very stiff. Any stiffer, and It will be too much to drive on the street.

I may as well just buy the C springs and Illuminas then...UNLESS the Stangnetters, or tom has a better recommendation for a car that is driven mostly on the street with occasional autox.
