A Sign From God??

So last nite right after I annouced that I was going to put my plans for my 408 on hold... I went out into the driveway fired up the mustang and was about to go to dunkin donuts..As he was walking to the car i was pushing the break cause they had felt real soft all nite...then all of a sudden there was a somewhat muffled pop and then there was no brake pressure...I got the car into the garage...and i will go look at when i get a chance...i figure a line popped..but i didnt see any fluids on the ground(althogh it was a gravel driveway w/some melted snow...So i figure thats g-ds way of telling me i need better brakes...

wow, thats pretty scary.....i have stock drums and that makes me want to not drive it till i get disc's up front..jeez

If you have 40 year old brake lines then you should replace the whole unit. Also just because you have stock drums shouldn't be scary, whats scary is if you have stock drums and a single bowl master cylinder. What am I talking about though I'm drag racing with one! I'm switching over to granada and duel bowl in a few weeks though.

Yikes! that is scary - heh, that's what I had before the granada swap. And the swap made quite a difference, also switching to a dual bowl cyl. I think I'd be happier with the 13" Cobra brakes!

i have all drums, single bowl and 40 year old lines lol and i drag race also...let me tell ya, its scary as all hell...i think i am going to get a chute just to slow down and keep the drums lol

My 35 year old rear brake busted

when they were repairing the floor pan, just sprung a leak in a rusted part of it. Replaced the line.

Even so, 35 year old manual drum brakes to me are just an accident waiting to happen. In and of themselves, they can stop in regular traffic, but I am seriously and I'll look like that guy with busted teeth if someone in front of me with 4 wheel discs and ABS brakes decides to stop quick. Suddenly I'm in Rich-Lady-With-BMW-SUV's butt and I've got a face full of blood b/c my head just hit the steering wheel with only a lap belt.

Sorry to make it so graphic, but there it is. Our cars are a big liability with the stock brakes and any sort of traffic. You can drive as defensively as you want to, but some yahoo with a happy brake foot could ruin your day, or depending on your insurance, your life . . .

can't wait for my Baer fronts to be on . . .

upgrade dem brakes, amnit:

I know what you mean..

Manual drums all around can take alot of getting used to.

I remeber when my rear brake line split. Thank god for dual master cylinders. I felt the brake pedal very sloshy so I checked the bowls and sure enough one side was nearly empty. Filled it up, drove it home and fixed em as quick as possible.

I plan on getting at least front disks and power brakes would be nice too.
