I have the 93 Cobra engine and computer in my car. Since I hear so much about the A9L and A9P, are these better than the Cobra computer? Should I get one and get a MAF that reads 24lb injectors? Or even put the A9L in with some 19 lber's?

The Cobra computer is a good choice if you plan to use a stock calibrated MAF meter and 24lb injectors.

If you try using the Cobra computer with 24 lbers and a meter calibrated for 24s then it will be screwed up.

The only real difference between the two is that the fuel ramps etc. were designed for use with 24 lbers as opposed to 19s.

I heard different. They say the Cobra comp is weak on the top end and even has a speed limiter. And I'm sure it's more conservative for emmissions. Well, maybe I'll find out and be able to clear things up. My questions can never be answered with solid proof.

The A9L is a hair more aggressive with it's fuel ramps and spark tables than the Cobra program but it's barely enough to quantify on a dyno.

As for your comment about "Solid Proof" well.... You did not ask for any.

Here is a resource that you can use to begin:

I wasn't in any way trying to offend anyone. I just haven't been to this site in a while because any questions I have go unanswered, but the threads that all have the same easy questions in them are the ones getting all the replies, while mine just get pushed down. Like I said, I'm not trying to start anything. You may have just taken my reply the wrong way.

Thanks you for the info. I haven't checked it out yet, but I'll see what I can do with it.

thats why most of the long time users are tired of hearing "3.73s or 4.10s" or "which exahust will sound better"

just keep posting, things usually get answers.

If you're looking for a "little more" out of a stock Ford computer then you may want to consider an A9P. They are for automatic cars but work just fine in 5 spd cars. Their tune is a little more agressive still.

I would leave it alone -- it looks like it makes great numbers and has stock drivability. You've got a factory match between ecu, maf and injector size -- don't screw with it if it ain't broke.

If you're interested in optimizing the tune, just mod the Cobra computer -- via chip, tweecer, pms, etc.

At the moment use what you have, but if you are going to get a more radical setup switch to the computer from a 5 speed fox. There is a few minor issues using the computer from an auto, i do not however remember them offhand, if necessary i can find out though.

The 93 cobra puter is a 5 spd puter from a fox.

2000, I dont know of any A9P issues. I wonder if you are not perhaps thinking of the AODE puter, which (after a 5 spd swap) will bog when it thinks it should shift (tip-in retard, which is intrinsic to 94-95's).

If you know of A9p issues, post up for all to know about.

Otherwise, Michael, et al, sucked the thoughts out of my pea-sized brain. I would tune the Cobra puter rather than transplant some other puter, which could result in other issues (which need a tune to fix).

Dont get discouraged about the lack of replies. It takes having the right peeps see the thread at the right time.

Good luck.

I'm with those guys... I'd be shocked if you saw any significant improvement by swapping out one stock EEC for another.

this isperfect for me.. i have 3 fox's.. one with a X3Z (cobra), A9L, and A9P.. the p is the car im not happy with.. it doesnt adjust its timing during shifts like the L or Cobra.. the cobra computer is great. All the experience ive had racing with that car its strong and runs smooth than all.. the L is by far my favorite, Just runs smoother than anything and i like the timing. All the cars tryed have equal and similar mods.. intake stuff and injectors.. I'd take a good L over the P anyday.. P over Cobra bc its a pain with the calibrated 24#'s

I'll ask BD next time i see him, i don't remember the true issues off hand, but i have went over this with him.

But what chevy eater posted sounds close, because i think the computer is set for an auto, which has nearly no rpm drop between shifts, and in a stick it falls much further, unless of course your are power shifting.

He's also not a fan of the cobra or sn95 computers, and uses some sort of conversion kit to put the a9l.

See what I mean. There's still mixxed responses. As of right now, the only thing that will make me make up my mind is if someone can say for sure if the Cobra has a lower speed limiter or if it's weak at higher speeds. Chevy Eater?

Thanks guys for all the replies.

In the States, a cobra should have a cobra computer, stock MAF and 24# injectors. The calibration for the 24's is taken care of in the computer, not the MAF. Others will be able to help ya more. Good luck.
