maybe you guys can help me since AAA wouldn't answer...

as yall might recall my cobra got ran off the road and totaled out. Well, the insurance company didn't screw me and wrote me a check for 8700. buy back was 700 so I ended up with 8 grand. Well, for some reason state farm decided they wanted to tow it to a salvage yard in rincoin, GA (about 120 miles away).

I was thinking about getting a AAA account and taking them up on the 200 free miles with the premier account.

so my question is this:

Does anyone know if AAA will pick a car up from a salvage yard and have it towed 120 miles to a shop I'm gonna be working at?

If so that'd be great cuz it seems the standard rate for towing is 3 bux a mile...and that'd rack up rather quickly. If I could get 200 free I believe I'd come out cheaper and have AAA coverage for those dumb moments when I lock myself out

thanks guys

You could rent a truck and tow dolly for less than the $3 a mile cost for a tow truck. Just something to think about, if the AAA thing doesn't work out for ya.

The truck doesn't necessarily need to come from UHaul. I was thinking Enterprise, Budget, etc. for the truck, and UHaul for the dolly. Probably still run $100-150 in rental fees, but would still be cheaper than the cost of a tow truck.

I used AAA once to haul the car from my house to my friends house where we were working on it. It had no front bumper and I told them it wouldnt startm even though it would. They hauled it but I cant say for sure if they would in this case, if not as stated before renting a truck and a dolly would be pretty cheap over all VS paying the $3 a mile to get it towed.

You gotta get that car back, ASAP. I'm sure it's being "perused" as it sits there. If you have to, get a tow truck to get it for you. It may cost you $300, but you'll have it back.

Why in H*ll did they tow it so far?

You better act quick sometimes they crush them right away if they don't look salvagable.

did you already pay the $700 and its waiting for you to pick it up or did they tow it after the fact.

already paid.

I've been trying to figure out why they towed it so far away..that just doesn't make sense to me. He said it was because it was considered an obvious total loss and that was the nearest salvage yard on their list...

It's BS...but at least they didn't screw me on the settlement I guess

Does the shop that you are towing it too have a way of getting the car. They may be able to get it there cheaper than you can.

Paul's thought was mine too. A business should get a better rate.

Also, you might check with independent tow companies. Some will hook you up with a good flat rate for a long tow since you're not at their immediate mercy (stranded) and they can plan to get the car during off-peak hours.

Good luck Clay.
