I have a weird problem with a rattle under my car somewhere near the transmission. When i have the AC on and the clutch is un engaged it makes like this low pitch rattle but when i press in the clutch it goes away. Doesnt make the sound at all when the AC is off. Im not sure what it is. Ive looked under the car to see what it is but i cant tell. I had a whole clutch job done in Dec and its only started last week. Got any ideas?

Sounds like a throw out bearing or a pilot bearing going bad, not sure why it would only do it with the A/C on.....that seems weird.

So it only does it when you disengage the clutch?

This is a normal rattle/noise for many cars with manual transmissions. The air conditioning compressor will introduce a vibration, especially at idle, and will transfer that vibration thru the crankshaft to the transmission. The pilot bearing, toss out bearing, and the rotating shafts within the transmission will magnify this vibration. Push the clutch in and it will stop. Let the clutch out (in neutral) and it will spin up again with a light rattle. That's what happens with ATF in the tranny, LOL.

I used to be able to hear my clutch disk spinning real loud, when I pressed the clutch in it would go away, turned out to be a broken motor mount making the clutch shake, replaced it and the sound was gone.

thanks for the replies guys. I figured it had something to do with vibrations but thought it was weird since it just started and i had the whole clutch including throwout bearing replaced.
