AC lines going into firewall

Do I need to remove my dash to get these AC lines off the firewall? I'm not really sure whats behind there. I'd like to get rid of these lines and smooth before I spray the engine bay. Is this part inside those black plastic vents?

Also theres two studs coming through the passenger firewall. What are these securing?

Those two studs are securing the ac black plastic box behind the dash. Yes you'll need to pull the dash. Search heater core removal mustang and you'll find a write up on the procedure

You should also have a self tapping threaded end of a bolt sticking in the engine bay below those 2 studs; it holds the heater box to the firewall from the inside.

When i did my bay this time i just cut those tubes off then tacked a plate over the hole them bondoed it all over. I wouldnt weld the plate on cause you might catch stuff on fire behind the fire wall. peace
