Yes, the a/c on Mustangs will cut out during WOT.

That's how all cars work. When you go WOT, the A/C shuts off. The idea is when you go WOT you need the power for merging or climbing a hill or smoking civics or something like that, so the A/C is temp shut off until you come out of WOT.

EVERY car has this...so the ricer excuse of "I had my A/C on" doesn't hold any water.

If your friend's don't beleive this, print this thread out and show them so I can tell them that they are idiots.

idk, i'd be at 170 mph by the time i'd notice warm air coming from the vents.. heh.

I am not so sure all vehicles have this compressor turn off deal.

I'm am fairly confident that the Toyota Tundra doesn't.

I could be wrong though.

Thanks for giving me the answers, I will show them this thread. No more excuses from them

That's cause Toyotas don't have enough power to worry about shutting down the compressor.

Haha, most likely there is enough residual coolness in the evaporator to cool the air for 10-15 seconds after it kicks down.

I usually can tell mine has shut off by the smell of the air coming out. It's still slightly cool though

What affect does it have on response of the throttle? (throttle response)

Depends on the car really. In theory, when you go WOT, the A/C should shut right off at around 80% throttle, so you may have a split second delay on the shut-off.

However, in reality think about this. When would you use your A/C?? On a hot humid day right? Well, running the A/C on hot days creates more underhood heat which gets things really toasty underneath. The air entering the engine is hotter and basically you lose HP from that alone.

My car is a dog with the A/C on, even if i shut it off. It takes a 10 min highway drive to cool the engine down to the point where throttle response is somewhat normal.

So i guess the excuse "I had my A/C on" does technically hold some weight. A car that's been running the A/C for a while may not be as quick as one that hasn't due to extra underhood heat.

But like i said, all depends on the car really. Some barely twitch with the A/C on while my Mustang feels like it loses 100HP with it even when it kicks off at WOT.

My friends still don't believe it's an ALL modern car kind of thing.

They tell me "Yeah maybe for a mustang"

It all started when I heard the "And that was with my a/c on too" deal in my brothers celica gts.

He put it in third and floor it fro 25 to like 60 and it never felt any warmer really...

I dont know?
