I'll start at the beginning:
I was driving down the road with my old R-12 system running when the compressor started squealing and smoke came pouring out from under the hood. I pulled over and the nub/valve right on top of the high side of the compressor had blown off and the contents of the system had spewed all over the compressor/engine.
So, I bought the LMR conversion system. I unhooked everything except the ?evaporator? under the dash. I used some AC system flush and flushed that out very thoroughly, put 7 oz of oil in the compressor as it said it was shipped with 3 already in it. I hooked everything back up and pulled a vacuum on the system (rented gauge set). Unfortunately it was too late at night to complete the task, so I left it for a few days with partial vacuum. I pulled a vacuum again for another 30 minutes, then started the car and hooked a can of R-134a to it.
As it was filling the car kept trying to stall. I had to restart it a couple times but the first can went in. Most of the 2nd can went in and I was sitting in the car keeping it from stalling when I heard the old tea kettle sound. I killed the car and shut off the valves. It looks like some oil came out of the nub/valve on the high side high-pressure before I got there. I basically gave up at that point.
Is there something else that could've caused the first problem that I failed to address before trying to fill the new system? Hopefully it didn't destroy my new setup.
