Hey everyone, I am new to this so bare with me. I have an 89 5.0 ragtop that the accelerator cable was sticking while driving, revving engine up of course - shut off and parked it - saw where the cable was fully engaged under the hood and it easily went back in place. Then it happenned again with my brother in law, who wasnt smart enough to shut the engine off, instead he apparently kept pushing accelerator until it caught and engine revved back down. Now the car will start, but only runs for a minute or so and shuts down - I noticed something is broken where the cable connects to the motor - but I am not that knowledgeable of what is what - I just know something is missing that was on there when it happenned the first time. Any help would be appreciated. The car ran great until this. Thanks

does the pedal still feel like it has tension on it?Does it spring back when you push it down?If you flip the throttle linkage from under the hood you should move and spring back when you let it go.Maybe snap a picture of the area you think something is broke.

I have seen the accelerator pedal stick because of a dirty throttle body several times. If you take off the throttle body make sure to seal up the egr spacer or bypass the coolant lines though. You don't want coolant in you intake..

I've seen this all too often. The best solution is to sell your prius and buy a mustang.

Seriously though, clean your throttle body. It's probably binding and not allowing the butterfly to close properly.
