Anybody using a pre-oiler on their mustang? My car sits for weeks at a time. As it is it's a 2001 with only 16800 kms, so I don't really drive it much. I'm wondering if a preoiler would help with startup. I feel a lot of the oil (MOBIL 1) must fall away from the bearings.

Any thoughts on this,.....

I looked at this and thought, "What a darn good idea!", but I never got around to buying/installing one. It's still on the list. Intuitively, it makes a lot of sense. I'm wondering if the pressure would bleed down over the time your car is parked (i.e.--'weeks at a time') rendering the pre-oiler less effective. Maybe a call to Accusump would answer that question.

Anyway, you'll probably do it before I do so take some pics of the installation and write up all your steps, please.

i would just crank the ignition a couple of times without starting the car. Then start it up.

There are other units on the market that use an electric pump. It comes on when the ignition is turned on before the starter is engaged, this may work better than the accusump unit that holds oil pressure in a reservoir.

I'll email them and see what they say regarding pressure bleed off over time. It might be what the air charge valve is for on the unit.

bump,...Here is the link. I must say I'm surprised that this idea does not get considered more often.

I haven't seen any with a pump, but I don't think there would be a problem with bleed off. The valve shuts before the oil pressure drops, and basically traps it there until you turn the key on again. I am planning on using one of these when I get my new motor done. I have actually looked into building one. The most expensive part is the electric servo valve which is about $50.

There is a piston in the reservoir, I'm not too sure how that part of it works. If you do build one let us know how it works out.

Jstreet does your SC have it's own oil reservoir? This unit can be used to prelube SC bearings.
