adding a irs to 05+

The watts link works both for handling and for launching. It eliminates the side to side motion associated with a panhard bar setup by placing a center pivot point to the symmetrically secured axle. This translates into better launching, braking, but most of all more precise steering through predictable rear suspension motion and compliance.

Maximum motorsports had an IRS setup they were working on, but they stopped when it was rumored Ford was going to release one. That was the last I heard when I pinged the MM guys a few months back. So no, there is no option right now that I'm aware of...but I want one! :D

I can't even begin to imagine how expensive something like that would have to be. You're practically engineering the whole rear of the car and its connection to the drivetrain from scratch.

IRS

I always wanted an IRS too. I do remember reading when the S197's came out that the new rear suspension was very close to as good as the IRS in the Cobras.
I am not convinced the expense of changing to an IRS on these cars would be worth it.

I have finally had a chance to drive some S197s with the Watts setup...it IS an improvement over even the more aligned Panhard setup on my Shelby GT (Ford Racing suspension). However jumping the curbs mid apex still tends to toss the car out more than I'd like--in comparison with an IRS. But it is pretty darn good.

I just finished installing my Roush sway bars and rear shocks in addition to tearing down my Watts Link and aligning it right and all i have to say it is DO IT.

If it wasn't for the weight I could have sworn I was back in my 240SX with the racing suspension it had. Can't wait for Auto-X next month!
