adj. heim joints instead of quad shocks

a friend and i were wondering if replacing the quad shock with a adjustable heim joint would help out on traction issues. we were thinking about this for my 92 v8 conversion since i have no quads or brackets. i can pick up a set for under 60 bucks and shorten to length. anyone have any drawbacks or ideas on if this would be a good idea ?

That would not work at all. They have to be able to travel in and out. You would end up ripping something out somewhere.

This idea has been suggested before.
As said above you will certainly tear the nearest weak point off the car.

The rear axle travels in an arc. Have trouble visualizing this? Think about a ratchet when the head turns and the handle travels in an arc…

As you jack up the car and the rear wheels drop, notice that the axle moves in an arc. The center of the rear wheels will actually move forward a small amount. Think what would happen if you could not move fore and aft – the suspension would bind and start to break things.

thanks for the opinions guys. finally got the car drivable today and had no wheel hop without the quads. , so i'll just save up to do the uppers and lowers later on.

You can get the quad shock brackets from a junkyard. They are on all V8 Mustangs from mid 85-93 and all 94-04 Mustangs. The bolt threads are there on the 4cyl Mustangs, you just need brackets. If you get 94-04 brackets, you can't use those bolts because the bolts are bigger and won't thread in...been there done that.

I would highly recommend UCA and LCA with a sway bar and good tires. I still have some light wheel hop with this set up, so I would recommend lining up some quad shock brackets and a cheap KYB quad shock from www.50resto.com Some suffer from wheel hop without quads and some don't.
