Adjusted clutch cable too much

I had my cable replaced about a month ago and it must have stretched.It was engaging about an inch off the floor so I pulled the pedal up just wanting a click or two but it went about four.Now it engages at the top of the pedal.I need to know the easiest way to correct this.

the best long term solution is to get an aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster. I picked up the three hook quad and fwa from UPR and was extrememly pleased with the results. I fiddled with the stock set up for weeks and couldnt find a setting I was happy with.

That seems backwards. I thought the auto-adjusting stock system compensated for clutch wear by adjusting so that the pedal engaged SOONER... Not later. There may be other issues with what you're describing.


Either way, I second the notion to install manually adjustable aftermarket parts. It was one of the first things I did to my car, and its great.

jsut pick up those items from upr the firewall adjuster, quad, and maybe even a new cable. just make sure that double nut the cable so that it don't back off on you anytime.

I will be getting an aftermarket adjuster and quadrant in the near future but for now this is my DD and its hard to drive this way.just looking to loosen the cable or something so i can readjust it and get the engagement point back down toward the middle of the pedal.What is the easiest way to achieve this.

ghetto something together that will attach to the clutch fork and give you the space you need.

basically I need to reset the self adjusting so I can start over.just trying to find out how this can be done

You dont have to buy anything, try this first. It shows how to pull the slack out of the cable but once you figure out how everything works under the dash you can figure out how to "reset" it to where you want.

Google search Mustang Cluth adjustment and you will come up with a few good sites. That being said, it worked for my SVO and for quite some time in my 90 coupe but eventually the clutch cable stretched too far and I had to get a new one along with an adjuster.

Yea, see, if you read that article, the auto adjustment method is supposed to move your engagement position CLOSER to the floor. I don't know how you got it to move farther (top of the pedal travel).

EDIT: No one has said this yet, so I thought I would. I believe Ford specification is to set the engagement point about 2-2.5 inches from the floor. Just FYI.

TY I seen this article B4 and I was looking for it.Just what I needed,took a few seconds and it works better then ever now.
