ok Im getting a new motor running. I adjusted my rockers because I was having no power when I gave it gas, but while I was in the process of doing this I noticed a incorrect value in my computer which caused the problem. Anyway I put it back together and now I have a surging problem. Could my rockers not being adjusted optimaly cause a surging problem? I checked for gasket leaks on intake and made sure everything was hooked back up. One thing I noticed when adjusting my rockers is that on a few of them when I would turn the rocker nut an additional 1/2 turn past zero lash there was no resistance. I assume this was because the lifters had bled down. would this cause those lifters not to be adjusted properly? thanks

When adjusting rockers, I always would adjust 2 at a time. I would spin the motor over by hand until both valves are closed and at "zero Lash". Intake/Exhaust.

Then you need to make sure the allen bolt for the lock is loosened up all the way. If not, it will stop before being all the way tight because it hits the top of the stud.

Then, using a rag, tighten the nut down until you can't turn it anymore by hand. (Using a rag helps because your fingers will slip from the oil on the nut)
Then use a wrench and turn an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn and then tighten the lock. It could be possible that the nut was not tightened all the way before the 1/2 turn.

You have it right turn the adjusting nut until the pushrod stops spinning or moving up and down whichever you prefer. Then do your additional half or 3/4 turn.Do you have alot more noise coming from the valve train since you put it back together? If the rockers are to tight then of course it wont run because of no compression but if they are right on the verge it could cause surging or stalling.

yes, i did notice that it was a bit noisier..and it would stall or come close to it when letting off the gas and pushing in the clutch to come to a stop. I'll try to adjust them again. maybe I'll run it first and then immediately adjust them. last time it sat for a few days before I adjusted them.. maybe causing some lifters not to be pumped up...if that matters?....
