The owners manual says you can adjust the clutch yourself by putting the car in 1st, lifting up on the clutch pedal untill it wont go up anymore, and push it down to the floor and it should click. Is that the right way?

I tried that in mine, because it has a little play in the pedal and it didnt work. I guess it might not need to be adjusted, but I thought id try it anyway.

Only reason I thought it might need to be is because the bit of slop in the pedal, and sometimes I dont think its fully enguaging when im shifting every once and a while. Ive missed more friggin gears in this thing than I have in any other manual trans car ive driven.

How hard is it to set up an adjustable clutch quadrant like Steeda or BBK?

look down at the pedal assembly and see if you still have the plastic quadrant on there. If you do you'll see the teeth that adjusts down over time. If you do have it see where it's at and you may have to pull quite a ways to get it to move. I've never head it click going back down and not sure if it's just that quiet.

I am not a fan of the stock quad, I think it leaves the cable too loose and causes peopel to grind gears on high rpm upshifts.

get a aftermarket quad and adjsuter, they are not hard to adjust

Yeah I think thats what my problem is. Driving around at normal RPM its allright, but when I was racing the other day once I started trying to shift quickly it grinded 2nd on me. I think it will help if that little bit of slack is taken up in the pedal.

I checked it, pulled up kinda hard... nada.

I did notice however that it squeeks whenever I press the clutch pedal in, and does the same when releasing it. Sounds like its lacking some lube somewhere, haha.

Is that normal?

Rip it!
I put a Steeda adjustable kit in mine last summer and it's been really good so far.

Ok its starting to piss me off.

Last two times ive put it in reverse ive gotten a nice little grind, and at times it doesnt wanna fully enguage into reverse. Also when I rev it out and try and do a decent 1-2, or 2-3 shift it grinds at times, even though im 99% sure the clutch pedal is all the way to the floor. The throwout bearing constantly chirps (quietly, but I can hear it) at idle and at speed. The clutch feels different than it did when I first got it, and that damn squeek in the clutch cable wasnt there.

If its the tranny and not the clutch im gonna be pissed. I tried adjusting the thing the way the manual calls for, but it didnt do squat.

How hard is installing and adjusting a new adjustable quadrant?

Edit: Looks like Steeda's kit is pretty nice. Would you guys reccomend the full kit with the double hook quadrant, the firewall adjuster and cable, or just the double hook quadrant and firewall adjuster?

This isnt the kind of money I want to be putting into this car...

I don't know personally, but I've read that the stock cable is pretty good and that just using the quadrant and firewall adjuster is the way to go. That's what I plan to do.

Maximum motorsports tested the stock cable against other aftermarket cables, and found that the stocker was indeed the best. Your throwout bearing could be sticking, my car was doing that for the longest time. After replacing the TOB, clutch, flywheel, pilotbearing and pivot ball, the pedal feels smooth and it shifts really easy.

Mine does make the "click" noise every now and then when I am driving... my clutch catches really high, much different than other cars I've driven (even other stangs).

I have the similar reverse, 1, 2 grind you speak of. Only when just starting the car though. Once it's warm it shifts fine. Every once in a while I have a little trouble getting into first but if you know the trick it goes in 1st without a hitch (push into first and a LITTLE to the left. )

I did some reading up on it.

Reverse doesnt have any synchros so when its been sitting in nuteral everything in the tranny is still spinning, so when you go and put it in reverse from a slight roll, or nuteral everything is trying to jam together, but its gonna grind untill all the shafts and whatnot come to a stop and they can mesh together.

The 1-2 thing I dont know. Its never an issue just driving around, but twice or so when ive gotten on it ive missed that shift. Its probaly my dumb ass not used to driving it yet. The other 5 speed I beat around in I can run the freakin hell out of that thing. About the same length throw as the stang, but there is like no resistance between gears, and someone with a broken foot could still use the clutch. POWERSHIFTING FOR TEH WIN!!!

I was talking about the beater truck with the powershifting. It puts down around 60 hp to the wheels if even that, kinda hard to break s**t with that MASSIVE power, lol. I can shift that thing very well, but I havnt really tried with the Mustang. Dont really plan on it either, id like it to last... lol.
