I thought I adjusted them properly, but I guess not.

I got my car started, timed, and tuned the idle after doing my head/intake/roller rocker install. I took it for a short drive, including a blast on the highway when my car started making a really loud ticking noise. My heart completely sank, I limped it home.

I pulled off my valve covers and one of my rockers was so loose I could move it off the valve. (Sigh of relief, I'm happy it wasn't more serious).

Anyways, what's involved in setting up roller rockers? I thought all I had to do was make sure the intake and exhaust lifters were on the base circle and then tighten down the rocker until it was at zero lash + 1/2 a turn. Then tighten the lock screw.

Am I missing something?

I have a hydraulic flat tappet cam with Crane Blazer 1.6 roller rockers.

Thanks for your help!

With the poly locks are you supposed to give it an additional 1/2 turn? I thought they prevented the nut from backing off....

I just realised that I should have adjusted them when the motor was warm and the lifters were pumped up

Were all the rockers loose, or just the one? You may of not set the lock screw tight enough if it is just one rocker giving you problems.

You adjusted them correctly, so just re-tighten it up, and try again.
