Advice From Nitrous Experts

I just install a ZEX Dry Kit on my 95 Convertible and I want get an experts advice before I flip the switch and mash the GAS.

I rebuilt the 5.0 and AODE 6 months ago.
GT40P Heads
Shorty Headers
70MM Throttle Body
Just installed Autolite 103's gapped at 35
Adjustable regulator with Gauge installed. Current Idle pressure around 38 Psi.
Explorer Intake
3.55 Gears
Timming set at 9

I am going to the Track tomorrow night and I am a little nervous,, let's face,,,, I'm Scared I'm going to blow the S**t out of it.

Am I good to go with a 40 Jet at 75 HP off the line?

I would use some Autolite 24's or 23's.
Also Don't spray under 3K or you will say bye, bye to the motor soon. 75 shot is a baby shot and you have no worries. I would do a few test runs around your area to listen for detonation before you actually try it at the track.

AUTOLITE 23'S ALL THE WAY. IT MAY MAKE THE CAR RUN SLOWER ON THE MOTOR BUT IT DEFINATELY WONT DETONATE. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE 40, GO WITH THE 75 SHOT. YOUR FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD, YOUR TIMING IS RETARDED AND IF YOU HAVE COLD ENOUGH PLUGS (NOT TOO SURE OF THE 103'S) YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DETONATE. BUT AS MENTIONED BEFORE DONT SQUEEZE IT BEFORE 3k RPM, YOU BLOW THINGS UP THAT WAY. WHAT IS THE SETUP REGARDING FULL THROTTLE SWITCH/ARMING SWITCH, ETC?

Are the autolite 23's okay for the gt40P heads? The activation works off of the TPS sensor, at full throttle it activates. If I get a RPM window switch, what RPM range should I set it for?
ON AT 3000 OFF AT JUST BEFORE THE MOTOR STOPS MAKING POWER...DONT REV IT OUT TOO FAR, WONT MAKE POWER, WILL WASTE NITROUS, MIGHT BREAK THE MOTOR...MAYBE 5500-5800

:nice:

I use a WOT switch on the TB and never had a window switch. I just lifted off slightly when I needed the spray to stop. Your rpms are slow enough to watch them until it get to around 5-5500. Don't waste our $$ on a window switch, IMO.

You SHOULD be okay with the 75 shot, as is, however, you may want to take the idle pressure up to 40 just to be extra safe.

If you plan on running a bigger shot, you will absolutely need a bigger fuel pump. With your heads/intake combo as is you are close to needing more fuel pump on the 75 shot, you will definitely need it for the 100.

I suggest you make one pass, then pull your plugs and check them. If you see signs of detonation, stop.

Also, I'm not sure which spark plugs you have. They should be at least 1 heat range colder than stock, 2 is safest. I run Autolite #24s, one heat range colder than stock, in my 5.0 and haven't had any problems on a Zex 125 shot.

I believe that it's:

40 nitrous/43 fuel= 75 shot
46 nitrous/40 fuel= 100 shot
52 nitrous/38 fuel= 125 shot

Also Don't spray under 3K or you will say bye, bye to the motor soon.

Doesn't this apply to wet kits that have fuel flow through the intake manifold? I don't see why it's a problem on a dry kit. I launch off-idle at the track on my nitrous and haven't had any problems.

I ran a dry kit and I never sprayed before 3K. I was to skeered to even chance it. However I did spray in 5th on the highway once around 2500 and nothing bad happened, guess I was just lucky.

Detonation on the plugs is going to look like white specs.
