Hey guys, I've asked this question a lot and had this on my mind for awhile, but I just can't make up my mind. I have a 01 GT that I really really like, but it has 97,000 miles on it and it's my dd, I don't want to be driving a wore out car and I figure I could get a good price out of it right now to put down on a new one. My problem is(this may sound dumb) that I'm really attached to the car and I can't get rid of it. I would really like to get a black 08 GT, but I just can't stomach selling my current Mustang. Have any of you guys been like that with a car?

I went through exactly want you are going through. I too had a 2001 True Blue GT and absolutely loved that car, i still miss her from time to time. However I wanted a new one really bad too, and I bit the bullet and did it. I had to fall in love with a new car all over again lol, which didn't take very long hehe. All in all i am happy with my decision.:nice:

Here she is gone but not forgotten

I went through the same thing as well with a 96 Cobra Convertible. Once I drove a new Mustang though I was hooked. Although I do miss the exclusivity of owning a Cobra from time to time, I do love my 2007 GT. And I must say it draws just as much in the way of attention and compliments as the Cobra did.

Had a black 02 GT 5spd lots of mods and it was a very nice car. I went through the same thought process, in the beginning when the S197 concept car hit the web and magazine covers right up to seeing the 05 on the street. I just didn’t want to part with it… all the time and effort and money getting her just the way I wanted, I couldn’t cross that bridge… until one night 3 weeks after moving to a new town some jack*** crossed the center line forcing me off the road… it wasn’t pretty.
After getting a check from the insurance company I got into a black 05 GT 5spd and haven’t looked back. It is a hard decision to make but I think if you just make up your mind you wouldn’t regret it.

Good luck with your decision…

Sounds like you have answered your own question man. If you cant bring yourself to get rid of her then you will probably always regret it. If your budget will allow get an SN97 and have both, if not then you might have to keep her and enjoy her. For the money you would spend on a new down payment and such you could put the money into gettin a fresh mill in the ride your drivin now. You could make that thing a killer!

Good Luck! Sounds like you have a problem!

I have driven a few 05's and 06 GT's and I liked them a lot, I even came real close to buying a vista blue 06 GT a year ago, but I decided not to do it. I even almost bought a black 03 Cobra a month ago, I was about to take out the loan but I didn't want the 550 dollar car payment. It's come down to a new 08 GT that I will order with what I exactly want or keeping my 01 and putting some money into that car every now and then.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that gets attached to cars. I've had a lot of good memories with the car.

I guess sometime in the next week I'm going to goto the dealer and look the 08's over close and park my car next to one and see if I can make up my mind on what to do.

EXACT situation. I just sold my baby (yesterday, actually, and delivering it today). I bought her brand new and she was my first and only car. Its going to be difficult, and you will get upset - no two ways about it. I had a few emotional stints last night, and who knows how I'll handle today. It was extremely hard to sell her, but whenever I start to get upset, I just think of the car I'll be getting - '08 GT. The excitement of the new car is FAR greater than the emotional pain of passing her on to a new owner.
