Hi all.
I need some advice for setting my car up.

New to fords, first mustang, loving it.
Should have gotten one of these yeaaaarrs ago!

Spent the past month reading. I have somewhat of a plan for the mods to the car.

I still haven't decided on turbo or supercharger.
I really really have a turbo fetish, but twin screw SC seems the way to go for a strictly street car seeking high torque numbers.

I'm planning on having the car blown in spring.
My goals for the car are lots of torque.
Wanna keep the car on the mild side with low boost,
don't want to push the stock internals.

This car will not be in the quater mile or street raced,
So I don't really care what top speed or 1/4mile times will be.
I just want a fun daily driver that will throw me back in the seat when I give it gas.

Kinda narrowed it down to the whipple or saleen SC kits in the 400-450 HP ranges....
which ever one keeps more of my warranty intact, i'll more than likely go with.
I'm getting 500 different stories on that matter, but that's a topic for another day.

What can/should I do before then.
I'm thinking that I should redo the exhaust and add a cam...

EXHAUST:
I want (and will probably need new exhaust)
Do not want high volume, but want a deep growl,
thinking long tube with regular bassani mufflers.

But the real question is, can I get long tube headers, and pass NJ Emissions?

Also:
For a complete emissions legal exhaust setup, is it just these 3 things:
Long tubes > Catted Xpipe > Axleback
Am I correct on this thought?

CAM:
Want the cam sound and any HP/TQ that comes with it.
What cam should I be getting?
One of the NSR preferably to keep install costs down.

CAI:
Should I bother getting a CAI if ill be going with FI next year??
Am I correct on the assumption whipple kits include a CAI?

Is there anything else I'm forgetting?
Obviously a tuner and tunes I will need, then onto suspension after all this.
Just trying to get a full engine/exhaust plan and shopping list figured.

Thank you in advance for helping with all the newbie questions!!!!!

400 - 450 is real easy to get so here is my $0.02. Ford Racing 400hp supercharger kit, it has a CARB number so it's emissions legal and with the Ford tune it's safe for stock internals. To acheive the growl and set of good axlebacks will do that, Bassani, Corsi, Borla, you should also look into the Bullit mufflers. I agree cams are not needed and are an enourmous expense for the power range you're looking to stick to. As for the extra 50HP a set of underdrive pulleys and long tubes with cats would get you pretty close, however it will be louder then just axlebacks so instead of headers I'ld go for a set of 3.73 gears if you want that seat sinking feeling.

Assuming your emission laws are similar to NC where I live, I can tell you this:
1) There are NO cams that are legal for our cars other than stock.
2) There are NO long tube headers that are legal.
You would be wasting money if you are going with a twin screw setup on these items anyway. Forget the other mods and bolt on a good 50 state legal kit. Edlbrock has a new one coming out and you already know of Saleen, Roush, and FRPP.

i think the whipple HO kit is the most complete. comes w/ the gt500 dual fuel pump, however the HO kit will void the warranty, but w/ the fuel pump and IC are worth it. if you decide later that you want more boost, then the IC and fuel pump will be there already, will save you money in the long run of getting these seperately.
