i put one one my car and it worked fine, just that it was probably like .25-.5" longer than the stock one, my question is, does that extra length cause any problems? just making sure, thanks
Maybe or maybe not. I have not done this one, but I have a couple different length shafts that fit my Mustangs.
That short of a diff should not be a problem.
Try jacking the car by the rear axle, and then disconnecting the shaft from the diff. If it still has some free play to move forward at the fully compressed rear suspension position, it should be fine. If it hits, it will damage the transmission.
Let me get this right. You swapped out both u-joints on the Aerostar d-shaft for the NAPA u-joints, and then transfered the yoke and the rear part from the Mustang d-shaft to the Aerostar d-shaft? I have one sitiing in my garage waiting to be done also.
yea i heard its been done before, so i just wanted to find out for myself so it definitely works. 35 bucks for an aluminum d/s. pretty cheap.
the catch is that it has to be from a aerostar all wheel drive, 92 and up. also in some years they have the recall fix which was the aluminum d/s. it measures the same, 45.5" from center of u-joint to center of u-joint
diameter is the same, i just dont know about the wall thickness. anyways, it took the vibrations away, so im guessing its basically the same d/s
some people will say it doesnt fit but just as long as you have the right u joints, and the right driveshaft, you can make it work
