Aerostar Drive Shaft mods

I picked up a AWD drive shaft last week for $13 and I was wondering what had to be done in order to put it in my stang. That now has a T-5 Would I have to replace the U joints or anything? I did not pay attention to what tranny the Aero had, I didn’t know if that mattered or not. The drive shaft had already been taken out and was just sitting under the car so all I had to do it roll it out from under the car and pay for it

I would imagine you'll have to get it cut welded and balanced to match your driveline length. The yokes looks the same, but I don't have any immediate experience with this. Does it feel alot lighter than the stock one? IF this turns out worth while for you I might try it.

If you dont have any experience then why respond. The AWD Aerostar drive shaft is already the right length. You need to stop trying to increase you post count and stop responding to things you dont know about.

The yokes are the same spline internally unless the van had an A4LD (I kinda doubt it). Worse comes to worse, you can swap the yokes out between your driveshaft and the aluminum one. Polish up the one in the pic if you end up using it. Even that small amount of surface rust will give your rear tranny seal a fit. The u-joints should be the same from one to the other. Out back, the mount is the same between the 7.5s and the 8.8s so that's a no-brainer. for peace of mind I'd throw a new u-joint back there too. 13 bucks for an aluminum driveshaft?...nice score!

Hahaha good thing I’m not at home. It’s here at my dorm room I cleaned it the best I could, plus its grey carpet. I was thinking about getting a kiddy pool and put it in my living room and rebuilding my turbo motor. I’m sure my roommates would like that.

I have never felt the weight of the aerostar shaft, But i have a FMS aluminum drive shaft in my car, and the weigh difference between it, and the stocker is substantial. The less weight the engine has to turn, the quicker your acceleration can be Not to mention the Alum. one is actually stronger then the steel original, and much better balanced.

Im going to weigh them both when I get the old one out. Ill let ya know then the difference between the two. tmp_lx the years of the AWDs were 92-94.

Dunno why, but I would prefer keep the mustang yoke.. ( the one on the tranny's side..) They look differents.
