Ok then, guess you got a couple things to do there, huh?

Man, that car has some potential. Check out BuyStifflers.com.... Their kit is a good foundation for running a cage to. Its strong enough to jack the front corner up, pulling three wheels off the ground, and you still can open and close the doors on the Vert. The price is 420 and worth every penny. Maximum motorsports makes the best k member and suspension kits. Check out LMR.com

Looks like the torque boxes need some help. Easy fix

So far,
Call in fox buddy for reinforcement!
1. Gut interior
2. Remove core support
3. Pull engine/trans.
4. Drop rear end and tank.
5. Remove decorative bar!
6. Drop K-member.
7. Weld in thru floor frame rails and 6 point roll bar.
8. Fab new torque boxes.
9. Fab rear torque arm, cross member, panhard bar, and new links.
10. Fab complete SLA front end with real front brakes.

Then put it all back together and drive!

Couple steps messing ;)

There, simple enough and not too crazy.

Excellent plan since you already have enough HP under the hood. Are you going to 5 lug swap the car or get a 4 lug big brake kit for crazy money?

Are you going for handling in turns or straight line performance?

What're you going to do tomorrow then?

Gonna go for corners. Which at my driving skill really wouldn't need much. But I'll overkill it a bit.
The bummer about the four lug fronts is that the wheels identify the car in way. But I won't pay more for 4 lug than 5 brakes. So I guess the wheels will have to change.
I'll have to do the engine bay also. The sure put enough holes in it!

"The Gas Monkey Mustang" is actually a movie car from 1999. And I happen to find it pretty bad ass, regardless if RR owns one or not!
To each his own. That car is OK.... I just couldn't see the OP doing that to that red convertible.

I guess I believe cars should be cars....and trucks should be trucks...but a Thing will always be a Thing no matter what is done to it. That thing is awesome [emoji106]

Can't wait to see the mustang evolve...no matter what you do to it. Nice projects, man !

You are right to worry about those round subframe connectors, wayyyyy back my car had them, about 10 years ago, put a jack stand under the middle and it broke like it was a piece of bamboo, water gets in them and they rot from the inside out.

Don't worry about the car splitting it half, according to the pics above, the car was really folding over on itself.
It's one of those problems that makes you think even powerful street mustangs could use some type of quality roll bar.

Boy you do have some work to do.

I don't remember seeing that much stress damage before, l'll have to keep this one in my memory banks.

Have you checked the squareness of the body yet?

I'm In strip down mode at the moment. I'll pull the core, radiator and disconnect lines today. Can't do much until the power train is out. Once down to the body only I'll put it on a table and check it. I'm guessing it will need to be pulled a bit. Cutting in the frame rails will likely let it move easily. Considering building all new torque boxes. Sometimes easiest to make new than repair.

As far as off-road, no. The stang could never compete with the Thing. The gas monkey stang is cool to look at, but functionally it's extremely limited and likely never to actually see the desert. If it does, it will likely be on access roads.

Looking forward to watching this one progress sir.

I really can't wait to watch the reactions on this forum. The photos of the VW thing are tip of the iceberg. They don't even "kinda" show the fabrication magic that this guy is capable of.
